The valleys

Kasbah with a view

Old fortified houses of rammed earth, restored as guesthouses, looking out over palm groves and the road south.

The stay

What to expect

Between the High Atlas and the desert, kasbahs were built to watch the valleys. Many now welcome guests, keeping their thick earth walls, which stay cool in summer and warm in winter.

They make natural pauses on the long drive to the Sahara, with time for a walk through the palms before dinner.
